Released on my own recognizance for a few hours, I got home to collect the essentials – laptop, mp3 player, toothbrush. clothes and a bevy of cables to keep the gadgets alive. A good test of being a virtual business. Moved to a different ward, I shared a room with a steady flow of occupants and their visitors. After 5 days on hospital tucker, I was woken by the aroma of fried chicken that was being served at the bed next door. “We have some chicken left over, would you like some”? Never has KFC tasted so good. Thank you Colonel Sanders. Good news from the Medical Team on the results of all the scans – no evidence of cancer in other soft-tissues in the chest, pelvis or neck. Not so good news was Oncologist’s caution that a bone marrow biopsy would wait until the pathology of the biopsy was available. Bone Marrow is highly susceptible to cancer cell invasion and the thought of drilling into my skeleton was the first real indication of the bumpy road I was facing. Other good news were the results of my request that while waiting could I be checked out for other health issues. Cholesterol normal, heart, liver and other organs all normal, blood electrolytes perfect, drugs to manage high blood pressure in place – down from my emergency room score of 215/190 to 130/80 – phew!. Sent home for Easter with appointment to see Oncologist Thursday 27th April – subsequently delayed until May 2nd. What the heck!! Did the Pathologist take a holiday?
