Oncologist 1st Month Review

This meeting was me saying that the chemotherapy seems to be working and the sarcomas are shrinking. Med-Onc checked the tumor on my scalp and the edemas on my face and agreed. The balance of the conversation had to do with whether I was experiencing any unexpected side effects like nausea, indigestion etc and I said no. The loss of energy and tiredness were normal. So we were in agreement to continue with the therapy. I  learned how the PACLitaxel works – it is on a mission to kill the cancer cells while it is circulating in the blood – ie while chemo is being pumped into my arm over an hour or so.. Once the infusion is done, it gets excreted within about 15 minutes. So the effect of the chemo is seen almost immediately and I don’t have to wait 4 or 5 days to see the full effect. One other surprise outcome was that when I rinsed my right eye with a water based eye wash, I was able to open my eye for a second until the muscles in my upper lid expired – yippee. Another round or two of chemicals and I might just get my stereoscopic vision back.
